The City of Pembroke Pines is an entitlement jurisdiction and recipient of federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the HOME program, as well as state funds from the Florida State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program.
The goal of community planning and development programs is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and to expand economic opportunities principally for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. To meet this goal, the City prepares a federal Consolidated Plan, which is a five (5) year strategy with incremental one-year action plans, and a state Local Housing Assistance Plan every three years whereby it establishes a unified vision for community development actions. This provides the City of Pembroke Pines an opportunity to strengthen partnerships among various levels of government and private for-profit and not-for-profit organizations to shape an effective, coordinated, neighborhood and community development strategy.
